Testing All 4 of Canon's Photo Papers
I have a Canon i900d color photo printer. As a general rule, it's usually a good idea to get paper made specifically for your printer. After doing a search for Canon papers, I was overwhelmed with the options. Yet, the online descriptions for each were too vague for a comparison. I decided to buy and test a version of each one. This article should help explain the difference and help you decide which one to get.
There are four kinds of finishes for Canon photo paper. Matte Photo Paper, Photo Paper Plus Glossy, Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss, and Photo Paper Pro.
Matte Photo Paper
Matte Photo Paper (8.5" x 11", 50 Pcs)
Don't let the photo of the wedding couple on the packaging fool you. I would not recommend using this kind of paper for any kind of special memento photographs. This paper is a light cardstock weight, but nowhere near the thickness of what you'd expect for a photo. The quality of the print is beautiful, though. If it wasn't for the weight of the paper, it's not obvious that it came from an ink jet printer.
Also, you can only print on one side. If you get bad results from your print, you should probably flip the sheet over and try it on the other side. I wish there was some kind of slight indication on the paper itself. As a note to myself, I just use a sharpie and write on the packaging PRINT ON THIS SIDE.
Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss

This is exactly the kind of paper I was expecting to get when I ordered the Matte Photo Paper. Semi-Gloss looks and feels exactly like the kind of paper you would get from a photo developer and asked them to print it with a matte finish. It has that nice very slight bumpy texture without being too shiny. My Canon ink-jet printer does not have a "Semi-Gloss" paper selection, so I just said that it was Photo Paper Pro and the print came out looking perfect.

The weight of this paper is the same as their Semi-Gloss. The only difference is that it has a glossy finish (just like if you asked for glossy from a photo developer).

The finish on this paper is the same as their Photo Paper Plus Glossy. It's shiny! It's slightly less white than the Plus Glossy. The paper is slightly less heavy too. If you didn't compare them side by side, you wouldn't really notice much of a difference. Now that I've made the comparison, though, I'd just stick with the cheaper Photo Paper Plus Glossy. If I want my picture glossy, I want it really white anyway.
In Summary
To be honest, if any of these prints were framed and behind glass, you probably wouldn't notice a difference. The print quality is beautiful. The colors are great and the details are crisp on all 4 kinds of paper. If you want your photos to actually feel like a photograph when you're holding it, my favorites are the Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss if you want a nice white, "matte" finish and the Photo Paper Plus Glossy if you want a nice white and glossy finish.
